“I share the disappointment that Cardinal DiNardo expressed in his announcement that there would be no votes on the proposed measures for accountability and transparency for bishops. I believe those measures were and will be a very important step in the right direction towards that transparency. I am hopeful that as we continue to work on these measures they will form part of the agenda for the synod of all the presidents of episcopal conferences in Rome in February. If that happens, the reforms we are working on in the United States could have a much broader impact and could help the whole Church.”
